One more game?

March 19, 2010 Leave a comment

There’ll be one more game available at the con tomorrow: Siege. This will be a playtest session for a game that I’m working on for the Stockade Project. It will fit only two or three players. And like all playtests, the session will be vastly different to any other kind of game session. Come along and play it to be part of Australian game design.

Why play Poison’d at Go Play

Perhaps the sleeper hit is Vincent Baker’s Poison’d. I’ll have this on offer for you, and this is why I think you should play it.

Pirates! Bloodthirsty, murderous, lecherous scoundrels of the high seas. Give in to your ambitions for wealth or revenge, but most of all stay out of reach of the English navy. This crew needs a new captain to steer the ship to riches, but do you have the brinksmanship to be that captain?

Why play Burning Wheel at Go Play?

March 13, 2010 Leave a comment

Peter Blake has two games on offer. As well as running Michael Wenman’s Quincunx, he’s also going to run the granddaddy of indie games – Burning Wheel. Here’s what he has to say about it.

It’s the fantasy game where every character has beliefs that challenge the status quo. Continually pushing the envelope is the only way to grow, but doing so pushes you into conflict with other movers and shakers – and some of them are bound to push back.
In this game, you’ll:
• Be an elf, or beat an elf – it’s your choice.
• Determine the fate of nations.
• Quite possibly see someone go mad from Greed or Grief.

I’ve played this scenario with Peter and had a great time with it. You will too.

Only 23 days to go until the next Go Play in Brisbane. The registrations have been coming in at a steady rate, but there is still room for more gamers at the tables. Be sure to tell your friends about it and send registrations to goplaybrisbane@gmail.com

If you’d like to come along to Go Play Brisbane in March, send an email through to goplaybrisbane@gmail.com

Preferences for games will be allocated on the day in the same sequence that I receive player registrations.  In other words, first come is first served.

Previously… on Go Play Brisbane

November 16, 2009 Leave a comment

The last time we held this gathering, people brought along a great stack of games to share. Just to whet your appetite, this is a small taste.

Dash-in Dungeons
Designed by Brisbane local, Mark McPherson, Dash-in Dungeons is a card-based RPG that can be played in an hour. Mark brought the deluxe set with him, more than enough for three hours of solid dungeoneering. You can find out more about Dash-in Dungeons here.

“Escape from Brisbane” – Anarcho Australis
Found somewhere in the dark corners of the web, this is an old gem of a game that was brought to the table by Brisbane’s RPG librarian, Peter Blake. He tweaked it just nicely to run an adventure set here in Brisbane, with all the flavour of Escape from New York.

Space Rat
Another Australian title, this time by Nathan Russell, was the comedy hit of my morning. Everyone played Femme Babes, eager to win the attention of Jack Cosmos through daring acts of bravery and adventure. I haven’t had this many laughs at a game table for a long while. Find out more here.

Were you at the last Go Play Brisbane? Did you play in one of these games? Drop a comment below and tell us about it.
